“This is Warrior 5. Sir. Pat yourself on the back with your free hand; draw a bar in the mud on your forehead…”
“Sir I’m honor…”
“Day old tea?! Lieutenant -one day or one month? Over.”
“T minus one day, Sir.”
“Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot….”
“Roger that, Warrior 5. What the fu.., Sir. Over”
“Confirm. Sit-Rep in two fife.”
“I copy: Situation report in 25 minutes. Location in fife. Over.”
“…Eyes on Juliet?” Clicking noise.
“Three scout teams no commo, Sir, Over.”
“Damnit!” Shouts Warrior 5. Brief white noise followed by a faint click. Silence.
“He’s 80 now, Sir…we knew the communication issues with this terrain. Oh.. over,” Scorpion squints and silently giggles as mocks the commander to a large rock opposite his scout team member hiding in the distance–perfectly camouflaged as just another large rock. Lt. Scorpion’s silent animated chuckle and wide grin nearly pushes out his ear-piece.
Scorpion regains his composure as he sees the vines begin to untangle from slits in his muddied pants and the attached leaves begin to fall into the wadi far below. After adjusting his earpiece and manual grip onto the side of the rickety bridge where he hangs.
Settling back into as comfortable a position as anyone could find on the edge of a rickety bridge in the middle of nowhere, Scorpion signals to his rock-camouflaged teammate, by signaling to the rock opposite of his position. Asking him, since he was no longer in no danger of falling.
A sudden abrupt white noise startles him in his earpiece. It’s his commander.
“Scorpion, this is Warrior 5. Order more scouts and get eyes on Juliet. Whiskey 5, Out.”
To be continued…
