Music: Everything is Everything

I wrote a poetry piece after Trayvon Martin was murdered for those who were grieving him. This time, after Michael Brown’s murder, I didn’t write anything. Maybe I will one day. Now, nothing good could come from my own words. So enjoy this record entitled Everything is Everything by my favorite rap goddess ever Lauryn Hill, instead

In Conclusion…

From “what I would say…”

If I had to conclude my journey with one last article, I would say:

When you are young, you know a lot of things you don’t understand. The difference between those two are so great that it feels like you don’t know. You start to question yourself, and with questions come mistrust of your judgement and what you know. With that mistrust comes a reliance on the reckonings of others. Until one day you journey back to understanding that the reckonings of others are for the benefit of others and living for others has left you wanting.

At the bottom of this journey is understanding that almost no one is really genuinely happy for you. No matter how hard they saw you struggle to achieve what you have or how they cheered you on or supported the spectacle of your becoming, these were lies to cover their belief that you would eventually give in or settle as they did or some perverse desire to minimize what you have as on some level less than what they have… They will not be happy for or satisfied with you so long as you have become more successful in any area than they have become. If you lean on the advice and persuasions of others, they will advise and nudge you into misery, poverty, and loneliness. Instead, trust and rely on God for everything. This is yet another thing you know but don’t understand until you really do, and the end of the journey here ends back to you.

I would thank you once more for reading my stuff. Of course it is all just beginning

Love,

Meka

Poem 40: At the End of a Heartbeat

A Freestyle Poem By Meka

I learned that one could die
If the beat’s broken inside
Unless there’s enough love
Left to keep her alive

The heart’s rhythm of life seems
Chosen but random and
It’s beat is a juke token
For keeping her eyes open Continue reading

$1.50 Cocaine: A Black History Ode

Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined being inspired by $1.50 worth of cocaine. Now if you think for a second that I’m comparing a bit called $1.50 Cocaine to a negro spiritual, that is appalling, and you my friend are about half right, that is all…

“Have you ever seeeen a dollar and fifty cents worth ‘o cocaine?” -Richard Pryor

Until I came across a 4-minute clip of Richard Pryor’s “Wanted” act about $1.50 cocaine, I had nothing to add to the Black History Month conversation that interested parties couldn’t just find elsewhere if they so pleased. So I felt no pressure or obligation before I had to pause a 4 minute clip 4 times for two things 1) to laugh without missing the next joke, and 2) to reflect on what I just heard.

Watch Richard Pryor $1.50 Cocaine ***Warning Offensive Language and Profanity***

It wasn’t just Richard Pryor doling out

A Damn to Give New Beyoncé Album

Why should new and independent artists care about Beyoncé’s critically acclaimed surprise album?

If you’re an indie music nerd like me, maybe you cringed a little when you heard about a “mega-famous celebrity and a secret…” and braced for ensuing weirdness before turning away. Relieved to learn as you watched between the fingers covering your face, that it was just another Beyonce album.

Now, whether to release her latest work without fanfare was a clever marketing ploy or just uncertainty in a risk management exercise, is of little concern to many new independent or up-and-coming artists. For any number of reasons, she decided it was important to release her adventurous mash-up of genre-hoping musical styles, regardless of how it would be well-received. Which artist can’t relate to that?

I like Beyoncé as much as the next person. She is a beautiful hard-working artist whose talent is a national treasure– clearly deserving her success. And most of us really appreciate that idea. Still, I heard Beyonce’s name referenced alongside the words “cussin'” and “surprise, and instead of curiosity I was admittedly unmoved to relinquish a damn. Why? Well, same as you, it’s not exactly what I have been waiting for either. But it is here, and true-to-form, she does try (valiantly, I might add) to make it good, and history says it will only get better after the one millionth listen. More importantly, and for one bright shiny damn…

Beaming from Another Sunshine Award

Bathing in the Sunshine

I’m beaming after receiving the Sunshine Award again. Thank you too much EJ for the nod on one of the besticist blogs around– Whimsical Eclecticist.  He says it’s about nothing–oh but it is such sweet nothing, and I highly recommend you visit it very soon.

Here’s the skinny: I’m supposed to tell you 10 things about myself and then my fav part is that I get to shower award nominations on 10 blogs that bring the Sunshine. And if it weren’t for EJ’s questions, I’d be staring blindly at my screen as a rush of “random observations about myself” zoom through my mind while my mind’s arm desperately reaches to catch 10 of them while its other arm is struggling to hold the ones I’ve already caught! Dropping random observations like crumbs all over the blogosphere floor. Thanks to EJ of Whimsical Eclecticist, the floor stays clean another day, and my mind doesn’t need arms. In fact, the only thing I’m reaching for is to continue becoming a better person to tell you 10 things about.

Here are 10 things about me, Meka Love- if you choose to accept 😉

Poem 24: The Case for Love

Love is guilty in judgement, and the jury is only one

Hung on Memories and Hopefulness submitting a compelling case against

Giving up on it- each alone stands begging you to remember:

Lying in bed while another stroked your head, counting the hairs

Silently and contently watching the calm in your face

Taking your hand into his palm just to marvel each finger- resting against his own

As if he wondered how someone so fragile and small could grip his heart so tightly

And ever-so-slightly loosening that grip to accept a most frightening concept

Accepting you…

Except nothing

Maybe he offers to shave “down there” or paint your toenails

Or pulls up a chair to watch patiently as you make

Yourself over for a date with him

However long that takes

Since you and he alone are the date

Satisfied in your company as long as

He is the one catching the last glimpse of the arch in your back this evening

While “zzziiiip” drowns out sounds of pleasure replaying in his head

Clasping those memories away for the duration instead

Fighting the desire of

Going back to bed

To make more love

When your eyes meet just to say,

“How may I love you today?”

So you hope for its rehabilitation

And again the case is in favor of

Love

Quotes: Inspiration to Harness Fear

“… the ability to accurately label and effectively harness disappointment– to its proper and most beneficial place, is growth. I don’t mean “excuses” because those are empty, but when I am actively working on becoming better in that specific area, I am growing. You can see the steps I am and will take and progress is measurable. Then, you can see that the car is harnessing the fuel– not the other way around. I was allowing the fuel to drive and it completely incinerated the car! You can’t travel in a burnt up car!”

These are the BASICS– an important piece of the foundation on which I can build my dreams.

I value a short-cut and a heads-up like everyone else, but I can’t dream of shopping and promoting volumes of my own future work with the anxiety I carried about revealing myself or paralyzing fear and self-criticism that haunted me. Do I still become fearful? Yes, but instead of transporting me back to bed, I’ve learned to harness it as fuel to transport me to back to the satisfaction that comes with living a peaceful life– not fearful in spirit.”

Open Letter: Love Mekanism Preview Book

Daily Prompt: Open Letter

Dear Lovely Community,

As I have immersed myself into Part 2: Challenge to Finish a Project, I told you of dual projects (one mandatory) but I’m aware that I have written fewer letters these days as I have practiced writing for fiction characters. and other shorter poems, but I read a quote on a blog for writers that keeps returning to me, and I’ll post a link when I think of it or find it again- (or if you read it too, send me a link). It’s about how one should write the book you have- not the one you want. Have you ever seen something that you liked at the time but becomes LOUDER to you later. So loud that you’re nudged to feel that there’s something important to be learned from it? Well, that quote was like that to me… Here are chapter excerpts from the book I “have“. And it’s non-fiction so far. I hope you enjoy the preview. It’s about a question we have when we start or pick up enough pieces- how in the heck does one arrive where they are– so many factors that make a person who he or she is- our ethnocentrism (somewhere an Anthropologist is smiling). I noticed earlier that there are at least three regular posts in draft O_O and I said I wouldn’t do that! So Ya know what that means? to fix it 😀 I’m getting there haha! Thank you so much for following with me on this journey. Enjoy!

If you are also working on this Challenge, feel free to post your updates.
